Yamashita Paper Studio Hiroya Yamashita's favorite paper products

Echizen Washi is the largest Japanese paper producing region in Japan. We spoke to Mr. Yamashita of Yamatsugi Paper Mills, a company in the village of Echizen Washi, which focuses on hand-made art komashi (floating paper) and develops its own unique technology called ``Floating Paper''.Which paper products do you prefer?

“Yanase Washi [cobble/mole]”

Mr. Yamashita's favorite paper product is ``cobble, mole,'' developed by Yanase Washi, which also produces fusuma paper in Echizen Washi no Sato. "Items unique to handmade washi paper. It's durable, yet each piece has a unique shape and wrinkle that makes it interesting." Although it uses a mold, a tool that can be mass-produced in the same shape, it is a very fresh product with the analog texture that is unique to handmade washi paper.

A product from the harukami series named "cobble" which means "stone".

And what are your favorite Taisei Shiki Seisakusho products that you would like to use?
It's called "PICTURE BAR."

"It's great that you can stick them on the wall without damaging your precious pictures. The colors are bright and cute. You'll want to have several of them."

... apparently ... I immediately sent it to Mr. Yamashita, and he said he was using it in his workshop!

Yamaji Paper Mill manufactures handmade Japanese paper, mainly for art booth paper. Every day, he works to pursue various possibilities for washi to become something that can be used on a daily basis while using traditional techniques, rather than being something that exists in the feared world of ``tradition''.

We hope that the techniques of Japanese paper, Western paper, and paper processing will not be too rare or too expendable, but that they will develop together as something that is closely related to daily life.

Hiroya Yamashita

Traditional craftsman. Founded in the first year of the Meiji era, Yamaji Paper Mills manufactures washi paper that is highly original and easy to make into products, with the desire to make washi paper, which is no longer a daily necessity and has become difficult to find, a ``commonplace'' in today's times. I am. I would like to continue to convey the appeal of Echizen Washi to as many people as possible, going beyond traditional ways of using it.
