Echizen is Japan's largest producer of Japanese paper. With a tradition of 1,500 years, it has long been known as the highest quality washi paper for its beauty and durability. Apparently, Japan's first banknotes were also made from Echizen washi paper.
For 1,500 years, they continued to strive to improve and spread the technology, and the washi paper, which was said to be of the highest quality, received generous protection from the shogunate, domain, and country throughout the era. Even now, many washi workshops are refining their unique techniques.
In the village of Echizen washi, Yamatsugi Paper Mill has the unique "floating paper" technology.
``Ukigami'' is so named because its surface has distinct irregularities, giving the appearance of a floating pattern. The uneven edges have high precision and look more three-dimensional than other embossing techniques.
Okada Otaki Shrine is the only shrine in Japan that enshrines the god of paper.
``We want to make handmade washi paper, which has come to be seen as a ``traditional craft'' rather than a daily necessity, to be a more familiar part of everyday life, just like it used to be, so we have created various products such as chocolate packages and notebook covers. We provide paper for various products.
This time, we designed a TS Store original pattern and created a new card holder using floating paper technology.
As I watched the paper making process, I was fascinated by the way the water shimmered and shimmered as the sunlight caught on the surface of the water in the dark workshop. This pattern was born from my desire to give form to this fluid and beautiful scene. Since the cutting positions are different, there are no two ways to insert the same pattern.
It has a design that is easy to use in both formal and casual settings, as it changes its shape as the light ripples through it. Each card holder is made with care.
The sharp edges of floating paper and the rippling organic lines create a pleasant texture.
