Nagata Paper Mill Izumi Nagata's favorite paper products

We spoke to Mr. Izumi Nagata of Nagata Paper Mills , which, like Yamaji Paper Mills, produces Japanese paper in Echizen, the largest Japanese paper producing area in Japan.

Nagata Paper Mill is a handmade washi paper factory that produces fusuma paper and interior decoration washi. Since our founding in 1909, we have been producing Japanese paper by hand for over 100 years. It seems that there are only a few places in Japan where fusuma paper is made by hand.

After graduating from university, Mr. Izumi worked at a general company before joining his family's business, Nagata Paper Mills. He was involved in the development and planning of uses for washi paper, such as accessories, and started crowdfunding for the production of natural paper. , is actively engaged in activities that explore the points of contact between traditional techniques and modern life.

We asked Mr. Izumi about the paper products he is partial to.

It is said to be a `` business card holder made of rolled sliding paper.''

``The fusuma paper is rubbed with glue and has deep wrinkles. It is hard at first, but gradually becomes softer. It is very durable and long-lasting, and after about four years of use, it will look like the picture.''

That's what he said. As you use it more and more, it takes on an unexpected texture. It is so wonderful that it has a texture and feel that is unique in the world, and it seems to change the image of paper in a good way.

Now, we asked Mr. Izumi about the items he would like to use among the products that take advantage of our ``paper container'' technology, which is quite different from that of washi paper.

It's called "TUBE STAND " .

" The shape of the corners of the paper tube is cute, and the texture of the paper seems to fit in any space."

Even if paper has color, it blends easily with other materials, so it can be easily incorporated into other materials. thank you!

Currently, Mr. Izumi is working on developing a product called ``YURAGU.''

“Drop the raw materials for washi paper,
Use the finished shape as an accessory.
Upcycling washi raw materials left over from the manufacturing process
Made to be lightweight and comfortable to wear with less strain on the ears.
A fluctuating shape created by hand
Enjoy the different expressions of each piece of Japanese paper. ”

It seems that the product is based on this concept.

It is scheduled to be unveiled at the " Tete Business Meeting " to be held in June 2024.
It would be great if it would be an opportunity to connect new Japanese paper with your life.

I'm really looking forward to it.
