Nao handmade washi paper studio by Gen Taniguchi
We spoke to Mr. Taniguchi, the seventh generation owner of Nao Handmade Washi, which continues to make washi paper using Kaji leaves in the Nao region of Saga City, Saga Prefecture, which has a 300-year history of washi paper making.

``No matter how you say it, there's a high chance that you'll remember it!'' It's made from the strong paper of Nao Handmade Washi, which is made from Japanese kaji leaves.
Nao handmade washi uses Japanese mulberry tree, which grows naturally in the Nao area, rather than the paper mulberry tree, which is normally used as a raw material for Japanese paper. Compared to kozo, the fibers are longer and the fibers intertwine with each other, making it possible to make thin but durable paper.
You can understand it clearly by actually touching Nao handmade washi paper.
"Kaji leaves" with a distinctive shape
Nao Washi used to have around 100 paper-making workshops at its peak, but now it's just the Taniguchi family.
Mr. Taniguchi, the 7th generation of the company, started an art collective called KMNR as a new activity to unravel the long history of the relationship between people and paper and present works with new interpretations in order to communicate the new appeal of paper. The work is attracting attention, including holding an exhibition in Tokyo.
I would like to continue to watch Mr. Taniguchi's activities.

In fact, my friend Taniguchi-san has collaborated with me many times at exhibitions.
When asked about his favorite Taisei Shiki Seisakusho products...
It says "POCHI-PON" .
